What are the laws of the gods than the laws of the state?

This quote is from the play Antigone by Sophocles. It is spoken by Antigone to her sister Ismene, after Ismene refuses to help her bury their brother Polynices.

Antigone is determined to bury her brother despite the king's edict forbidding it, and she does not want Ismene's help if it is not freely given.

She believes that it is her duty to bury her brother and that it is more important to obey the laws of the gods than the laws of the state.

what are the two types of linguistics? question 4 options: structuralist and comparative semantic and descriptive comparative and descriptive structuralist and descriptive

Answers

Answer:

comparative and descriptive

The two types of linguistics are structuralist and descriptive. Linguistics is the study of language and its structure.

It looks at how language is learned, how it evolves over time, and how it is used in social contexts. Linguistics encompasses many subfields, including phonetics, phonology, syntax, morphology, semantics, and pragmatics. Structural linguistics is a method of analyzing language that examines the underlying structure of language.

It examines the patterns of language usage that are common to all languages and the way in which they can be used to create meaning. It aims to discover the basic structures of language and to use these structures to create a more comprehensive understanding of how language works.

This approach to linguistics was popular in the mid-20th century and had a significant influence on the development of other linguistic theories. Descriptive linguistics is the study of language in its natural context. It examines the way language is actually used by speakers, rather than prescribing how it should be used. It looks at the way that language is used in real-life situations.

China's response was to hit back with retaliatory sanctions against ten individuals and four organizations in the U.S. and Canada.

The Uyghur genocide is a severe human rights violation that needs global attention. These sanctions are a significant step in holding the Chinese government accountable for its inhumane treatment of the Uyghur Muslim minority.

However, it's sad that the Chinese government has denied allegations of genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang. In the line "who knew your last supper would be a feast of the colonised minds," Caitlin Jenkins is suggesting that the people of South Auckland have been subjected to a form of mental colonization that has affected their ability to think and act freely. The term "colonised minds" refers to the ways in which the legacy of colonialism - particularly the colonization of New Zealand by British settlers - has impacted the cultural and social norms of the country, and has led to a kind of internalized oppression or subservience among some members of society.

Jenkins may be suggesting that the people of South Auckland, who are predominantly from Pacific Island and Māori backgrounds, have been particularly impacted by this legacy of colonization, and that their ability to fully express themselves and live their lives on their own terms has been limited by the mental and cultural constraints that have been imposed upon them. The phrase "feast of the colonised minds" suggests that even the act of eating or nourishing oneself has been impacted by this legacy of colonization, and that the people of South Auckland may struggle to fully embrace their own cultural practices and traditions in the face of these constraints.

Dog Training Me?
by Bryan Ellett

My new dog is a mutt, or a mix of breeds, most likely a mix between a basset hound and a beagle. No one knows for sure, though. His name is Capote, and he is a really attractive dog, small but sturdy. He has great posture and always looks proud, sticking his chest out slightly and standing tall. There is only one problem, but it’s a big problem: he won’t fetch.

Actually, it’s worse than that. Not only will he not fetch, he’s making me play his game! I throw the ball, and Capote goes running after it, as if fetch is the thing in the world he most enjoys. He begins bringing the ball back to me, but then he runs right past me. I follow him, reaching for the ball and trying to pull it out of his mouth, but he keeps turning away from me, teasing me with the ball! He’s not playing fetch; he’s playing “come chase me!” And he’s training me to do it, too!

Once I realized this, I read some books, and I’ve changed my strategy. If he runs past me with the ball, I don’t follow him, and I don’t reach for the ball. Instead, I turn my back on him and ignore him. He really does like to play, so me ignoring him is a tremendous punishment! Eventually, he’ll bring the ball over to me, and once he does, I immediately throw it. That way, he knows that he’ll be rewarded with another throw if he brings me the ball. He is not a perfect fetch player yet, but I can now tell that one day he will be!
