Directions: Read the passage, and answer the question that follows.

George Washington

A George Washington, the first president of the United States, is known as “the father of our country.” To become president, George had to be brave and honest. This story tells how he showed both bravery and honesty even as a young boy.
B Young George grew up on a plantation in Virginia. His father grew many things there. His father’s pride and joy, though, was his fruit orchard. He grew all kinds of pears, apples, peaches, plums, and cherries. Mr. Washington planted one very special tree, a cherry tree, just at the edge of his orchard. He told everyone how much he cared for this tree, and he took special care of it. It was the most beautiful tree on the whole plantation.
C One spring, just as all the trees were in bloom, George was given a hatchet. Right away, he tried out his new gift. He chopped fence rails, sticks, and anything else he could find. Toward evening, George came to the edge of the orchard. Without thinking, George chopped right through his father’s favorite cherry tree.
D Later, after a long day of work, Mr. Washington took a walk around the grounds. When he neared the place where his special tree had stood, he was shocked. To his surprise, he found his prized tree cut down to the ground. Mr. Washington was furious! He demanded to know how this had happened. He found young George and asked, “Do you know what happened to this tree?”
E George could see his father’s great anger, and he became quite scared. He knew he had to answer somehow; so even though he was afraid, he took a deep breath and stood straight and tall. Then he looked his father in the eye and said these famous words: “I cannot tell a lie. Father, I chopped down your cherry tree.”
F Now Mr. Washington was very angry, but he, too, took a deep breath and then told George to wait in the house. George was very sorry about what he had done. He was worried as he waited for his father. When Mr. Washington entered the house, he looked at George sternly and said, “Now, George, why did you cut down my tree?”
G Shaking, George was barely able to explain. He told how he had become so excited by his new hatchet that he cut the tree down without thinking of what he was doing at the time. He had not meant to do anything wrong.
H His father looked very disappointed. He told George how unhappy he was. Then he said, “This tree came from the Old World across the ocean. It cannot be replaced.”
I George felt worse than he had ever felt before. He bowed his head and said, “I’m sorry.”
J Mr. Washington’s face changed. He knelt down beside George and said, “I am unhappy about losing my favorite tree. But I am very pleased that you were brave enough to face me and tell the truth. Remember, son, the truth is far more important than all of the finest trees in the world.”
K Although we are not sure that this is a true story, many people will tell you that it did happen. George remembered his father’s words and stayed brave and honest for the rest of his life.

What is the most influential theories of motivation?

Answers

Answer:

The most influential theory of motivation is Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

Explanation:

Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs can be represented as a pyramid, divided into specific "needs" that someone (for example, an employer in an organisation) may have.

At the very bottom, you have Physiological needs, such as food, shelter, water, sleep, etc. One level above is Safety and self-protection: to seek security, stability and law and order, as well as the absence of fear and/or anxiety.

Above Safety and self-protection is Affiliation and Belonging: the need to establish social relationships with the people around you. Above that is Status and Self-esteem: the need for society to recognise you, to respect you and for that to raise your self-esteem.

Finally, at the top, you have Self-actualization: the need for one to utilize their abilities to the fullest in whatever one does, Reproductive goals, which include finding a mate and the Search for meaning, which is the need to feel significant of one's existence.

Assessment in learning refers to ongoing evaluation throughout the learning process, whereas assessment as learning involves students taking an active role in self-assessment and reflection.

In the context of CAPS (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement), the following assessment terminologies can be differentiated:

4.4.1 Assessment for learning (formative assessment) involves the gathering of information during the learning process to provide feedback and support students in improving their understanding and skills.

The primary purpose is to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement, enabling teachers to adapt their teaching methods and students to make progress.

Assessment of learning (summative assessment), on the other hand, focuses on evaluating students' achievement and learning outcomes at the end of a unit, term, or course.

It aims to provide a summary of what students have learned and achieved, often through formal assessments like tests, exams, or projects.

4.4.2 Assessment in learning refers to the ongoing and continuous assessment practices incorporated into the teaching and learning process.

It includes formative assessments, class discussions, observations, and other strategies that provide feedback and inform instructional decisions.

Assessment as learning emphasizes students' active involvement in their own assessment process.

It involves students reflecting on their learning, self-assessing their progress, setting goals, and monitoring their own growth.

It helps develop students' metacognitive skills and fosters a sense of responsibility for their learning.

These assessment terminologies highlight different aspects of the assessment process, ranging from providing feedback and support during learning (assessment for learning) to evaluating outcomes at the end of a period (assessment of learning).

Assessment in learning emphasizes ongoing evaluation, while assessment as learning promotes student agency and self-assessment.

What are the major assumption of the three Anthropological theories of ethnicity according to the perspective of culture, race, identity and ethnic group

Answers

Anthropological theories of ethnicity are an important aspect of understanding ethnicity, culture, race, identity, and ethnic groups.  The three anthropological theories of ethnicity are primordialism, instrumentalism, and constructivism.

Here are the major assumptions of these theories from the perspectives of culture, race, identity, and ethnic group:

Primordialism:

Primordialism is the view that ethnicity is a natural and enduring aspect of human identity that emerges from a deep-rooted sense of attachment to kinship and culture. This theory asserts that ethnic identity is based on a shared ancestry, language, culture, and traditions. From the cultural perspective, primordialists believe that ethnicity is innate and organic, not constructed or invented. They argue that ethnic identities are shaped by historical events, geography, and biology

From the race perspective, primordialists believe that ethnicity and race are interrelated, but not the same thing. They see race as a biologically inherited characteristic that is used to define and categorize people. From the identity perspective, primordialists argue that ethnicity is the most fundamental form of identity, and that people are naturally drawn to it. They believe that ethnicity is the source of social solidarity and social conflict. From the ethnic group perspective, primordialists view ethnic groups as stable and bounded communities that are held together by a sense of shared culture and heritage.

Instrumentalism:

Instrumentalism is the view that ethnicity is a strategic resource that individuals and groups use to achieve political, economic, and social goals. This theory asserts that ethnic identities are not fixed or natural, but rather fluid and malleable. From the cultural perspective, instrumentalists believe that ethnicity is a product of human creativity and imagination, and that it is used to achieve practical ends. They argue that ethnic identities are shaped by political, economic, and social factors. From the race perspective, instrumentalists believe that ethnicity and race are social constructs that are used to advance certain interests. They see race as a product of social and historical processes that are used to create and maintain social hierarchies.

From the identity perspective, instrumentalists argue that ethnicity is a secondary form of identity that is used to achieve specific goals. They believe that people are motivated by self-interest, and that ethnic identity is a means to an end. From the ethnic group perspective, instrumentalists view ethnic groups as fluid and flexible entities that are created and dissolved based on changing circumstances.

Constructivism:

Constructivism is the view that ethnicity is a socially constructed phenomenon that is created and sustained through cultural practices and discourses. This theory asserts that ethnic identities are not natural or innate, but rather socially and culturally constructed. From the cultural perspective, constructivists believe that ethnicity is a product of cultural practices and discourses, and that it is constantly changing and evolving. They argue that ethnic identities are shaped by language, symbols, and rituals. From the race perspective, constructivists believe that ethnicity and race are social constructions that are used to create and maintain power relations. They see race as a product of historical and social processes that are used to establish and maintain social hierarchies.

From the identity perspective, constructivists argue that ethnicity is a socially and culturally constructed form of identity that is used to negotiate social relations. They believe that people are actively involved in the creation and maintenance of ethnic identities. From the ethnic group perspective, constructivists view ethnic groups as socially constructed entities that are created and sustained through cultural practices and discourses. They argue that ethnic groups are not fixed or natural, but rather dynamic and flexible entities that are constantly changing and evolving.

Answers

The correct  Option  is (D) If the end result from the second column is also 9, then the sum of the numbers in the first column is equal to the sum of the numbers in the second column.

The initial column of numbers is (33, 58, 17) with a summed value of 27 and an end value of 9 after adding the individual digits together.

Now, this operation must be carried out for a second column of numbers.

Let's suppose that the second column of numbers is (14, 42, 57), so the sums are 5, 6, and 12. Add them up to obtain a value of 23.Now add the digits of 23, which equals 2+3=5, and then add the digits again: 5 is the sum of one digit, thus it doesn't need to be added further.

However, the final result of the second column of numbers is 5. The answer choices say that if the result is not 9, the sum of the two columns' numbers will not be the same (option A), but we already know that this isn't true since the second column's sum was 5.

The next option, B, is also incorrect since it claims that the sums of both columns are identical when the end result is not 9, which is false, as evidenced by the previously stated calculation. The right option is D because it says that if the end result from the second column is also 9, then the sum of the numbers in the first column is equal to the sum of the numbers in the second column. That is precisely what has occurred here.  Therefore the correct option is  D

Conscientious objection refers to individuals refusing to participate in activities conflicting with their beliefs or morals. Apartheid represents a specific historical context of racial segregation and the fight against it. Lastly, civil disobedience is placed at the end, as it refers to deliberate violation of laws to protest unjust policies or laws.

which principle does the government described in the passage most directly represent

Answers

The government described in the passage most directly represents the principle of the separation of powers in a democracy.

According to the separation of powers principle, the government is divided into three distinct branches: the legislative, the executive, and the judiciary.

The legislative branch is responsible for making laws, the executive branch for enforcing laws, and the judiciary for interpreting laws and settling disputes between citizens or between citizens and the government. This division of powers ensures that no one branch becomes too powerful and that each branch acts as a check on the others. The passage describes a government where the President is the head of state and the Prime Minister is the head of government.

The President is responsible for representing the country abroad, while the Prime Minister is responsible for running the day-to-day affairs of the government. The passage also mentions a Parliament, which is responsible for making laws. This division of powers between the President, the Prime Minister, and the Parliament is a clear example of the separation of powers principle in action. Each branch of government has its own specific powers and responsibilities, and no one branch can act without the approval or oversight of the others.

This ensures that no one person or group becomes too powerful and that the government as a whole remains accountable to the people it serves. Therefore, the government described in the passage most directly represents the principle of the separation of powers in a democracy.

Cascade Corp. produces 1,000 products in its factory for $15,000. If it produces 100 more of these products, the total cost would increase to $17,500.What is the marginal cost?

Answers

The marginal cost of producing 100 additional products is $2,500. This means that each additional product incurs an average cost of $2,500.

The marginal cost is the additional cost incurred by producing one additional unit of a product.

In this case, we can calculate the marginal cost by finding the difference in total cost when producing 1,100 products instead of 1,000.

The initial cost of producing 1,000 products is $15,000. When the production increases to 1,100 products, the total cost increases to $17,500.

To find the marginal cost, we subtract the initial cost from the new cost:

Marginal Cost = New Cost - Initial Cost

Marginal Cost = $17,500 - $15,000

Marginal Cost = $2,500

The marginal cost of producing 100 additional products is $2,500. This means that each additional product incurs an average cost of $2,500.

It is important to note that the marginal cost represents the incremental cost of producing one additional unit and helps businesses make decisions regarding production levels and pricing strategies.

Typically high inflation is a sign of

Answers

high inflation is typically a sign of an overheating economy or an increase in the general level of prices. It indicates imbalances in the supply and demand of goods and services. While moderate inflation is generally considered healthy, high inflation can have detrimental effects on individuals, businesses, and the overall economy. It erodes purchasing power, disrupts economic planning, distorts economic signals, and undermines confidence in the currency.

Typically, high inflation is a sign of an overheating economy or an increase in the general level of prices in an economy over time. Inflation occurs when there is an imbalance between the supply and demand of goods and services, leading to a sustained rise in prices. It is important to note that moderate inflation is generally considered healthy for an economy as it indicates a growing and dynamic market. However, high inflation can have negative consequences for individuals, businesses, and the overall economy.

One of the primary causes of high inflation is excessive money supply growth. When the central bank or government increases the money supply through measures like printing more currency or lowering interest rates, it can lead to an excess of money in circulation. This excess liquidity fuels demand for goods and services, which drives up prices. Additionally, high inflation can also be triggered by factors such as rising production costs, increasing wages, supply chain disruptions, or a depreciating currency.

High inflation can have several adverse effects on an economy. It erodes the purchasing power of individuals and reduces their standard of living. Fixed-income earners, such as retirees or those on fixed salaries, are particularly vulnerable to the negative impact of high inflation as their income does not keep pace with rising prices. Businesses also face challenges in planning and budgeting due to the uncertainty created by inflation, making it difficult to make long-term investment decisions.

Furthermore, high inflation can distort economic signals and hinder efficient resource allocation. It creates uncertainty, discourages savings, and encourages speculative activities. It can also lead to a loss of confidence in the currency, resulting in capital flight and a decline in foreign investment.

Atmosphere the plates of the atmosphere move - on this hot mane below the semi liquid zone on the upper metal directly below the lithosphere

Answers

the movement of tectonic plates is facilitated by the convective flow of the hot semi-fluid rocks in the asthenosphere. This process occurs beneath the lithosphere and is driven by the transfer of heat from the Earth's interior. The asthenosphere acts as a semi-liquid zone that allows for the gradual movement and interaction of the tectonic plates, shaping the Earth's surface over time.

The movement of tectonic plates is a key process that shapes the Earth's surface and influences various geologic phenomena. It occurs within the lithosphere, which is the rigid outer shell of the Earth consisting of the crust and uppermost part of the mantle. However, below the lithosphere, there is a partially molten layer known as the asthenosphere. This layer is located directly beneath the lithosphere and plays a significant role in plate tectonics.

The asthenosphere is composed of hot, semi-fluid or plastic rock material. It is characterized by its ability to undergo gradual flow and deformation over long periods of time. The high temperature and pressure in this region cause the rocks to exhibit a somewhat viscous behavior, allowing them to deform and flow in response to forces applied from above.

The movement of the plates is primarily driven by convection currents in the asthenosphere. Heat from the Earth's interior causes the rocks in the asthenosphere to become buoyant, leading to the upward movement of hotter materials and the downward sinking of cooler materials. This convective motion creates a cyclic flow pattern within the asthenosphere.

As the hot material rises, it pushes against the overlying lithospheric plates, causing them to move in different directions. This movement can result in various geological features such as earthquakes, volcanic activity, and the formation of mountain ranges. The interaction between the lithospheric plates and the convective flow in the asthenosphere is responsible for the dynamic nature of the Earth's surface.

Maximum Cardinality Part of the leadership task in mobilizing organizational energy behind the drive for good strategy execution entails nurturing a results-oriented work climate, where performance standards are high and a spirit of achievement is pervasive. Discuss the leadership actions and responsibilities of strategic leadership that the CEO, Erik Venter at Comair could utilise to successfully lead the effort in strategy execution. FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT 1 [100 Marks] Comair flies high after efficiency strategy pays off Comair announced on Tuesday that it has achieved record earnings for the financial year ended June 302018 , despite challenging trade conditions. Profit after tax was R326m, up R29m compared to the prior financial year. This marks 72 years of uninterrupted profitable operations. A final gross cash dividend of 17 cents per ordinary share was approved. During the past financial year its non-airline business contributed 25% to net profit before tax. Earnings per share (EPS) increased by 10% to 69.8 cents per share, while headline earnings per share (HEPS) increased by 4% to 69.5 cents per share. During the previous financial year EPS was 63.7 cents per share and HEPS 67.0 cents per share. The challenging conditions during the financial year included poor economic growth in SA; rising fuel prices; and surplus capacity in the SA domestic airline market. Comair's main business is scheduled and non-scheduled airline services within SA, sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and the Indian Ocean Islands. It operates under its low-fare airline brand kulula.com, as well as under the British Airways livery, as part of a license agreement. In addition, Comair has a catering service; domestic and international airport lounges; and a training centre. Comair CEO Erik Venter told Fin24 they anticipated in the past that oil prices would increase again. That is why it followed a strategy of upgrading its fleet over the past five years to more fuel-efficient aircraft. This strategy is increasingly paying off, widening the gap with competitors, in his view. Comair currently buys about 17 million litres of jet fuel per month and Venter estimates it saves about 6% to 7% on its total fuel burn thanks to the new aircraft. Once the next generation Boeing 737MAX aircraft is incorporated in the Comair fleet as from January 2019, Venter anticipated the airline will use about 17% less fuel per flight than a year ago. Taking into account the extra seats offered on the new aircraft, he estimates that the fuel burn per seat will be 35% less than on the aircraft being replaced. "This is a long-term game and currently the higher fuel price is giving us more edge over our competitors," he said. Surplus capacity Venter explained that the surplus capacity in the domestic airline market was caused by the expansion of the low-cost airline industry over the past three years, while the demand for low-cost air travel did not grow. "Over the last three months, as economic pressure grew - especially due to fuel price increases - some airlines have been cutting airfares to try and grow revenue. We see a bit of desperation in the market at the moment," said Venter. He added that, while profits for the year were good, Comair is still not achieving the margins that will allow for the optimum pace of upgrading its fleet. He foresees that the weak SA economy will maintain pressure on consumer spending, while the oversupply of seats in the domestic airline market suppresses pricing across most routes. At the same time, he regards Comair as well placed to operate in these difficult conditions, thanks to its strong brands, committed staff, effective equipment, an efficient cost base and strong cash reserves. Furthermore, its diversification strategy into non-airline business yields comparatively higher margins and is less capital intensive than the airline segment. Skills shortage According to Venter, there is a broad shortage of skills in Africa in the aviation industry and it is expected to get worse over the next few years as many skilled technicians start to retire. That is why Comair sees a market for creating these skills at its academy. There is already a lot of interest from international companies operating in SA. As for its flight operations, Comair plans to stick to what it currently offers until the economy improves. Asked about his view on the situation at state-owned airlines SAA and SA Express, Venter said these airlines have hard challenges ahead. "It seems as if people internally at these airlines do not want to see change as they benefit from the way things are. Harry Potter.
